Regional development is an area that is vital to Sri Lanka in the context of regional disparities that currently exist between nine provinces. Therefore regional development is a subject that draws the attention of policy makers, economists, geographers and the general Public.
This one year program leading to the Master of Regional Development and Planning will include 12 course units of 45/60 hours duration of each, in which six are compulsory units and two others are optional. There shall be one examination paper on each course unit except Extended Essay/ Project work for the final examination. Each paper shall be of three (3) hours duration.
Medium and Methods of Instruction
The medium of instruction. will be English.
There will be eight courses and an extended essay as indicated below: Compulsary Course modules (6)
(a) First or Second Class Honours in the First Degree in a related field of the Masters study programme
(b)Postgraduate Diploma in a related field conducted by the Faculty of Graduate Studies or any other Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant subject from a recognized University
(c) Master Degree in any other related field
(d) Professional qualification from a recognized body in a related field with two years relevant experience acceptable to the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Senate of the University of Colombo
(e) Bachelors Degree in any other discipline or any other equivalent qualification with two years experience in the relevant field acceptable to the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Senate of the University of Colombo
(f) A good knowledge of English and experience in computer operation.
